Can anyone tell me what the US Army and the US Army Rangers use for their current rucksacks? Thanks.

The current one that the 82nd Airborne uses is the MOLLE…the Alice pack is old school and is not used.

And…the MOLLE does not require ANY extra gear to be jumped with, it uses the same exact harness to secure it as the Alice.

The ruck that the army uses is bigger then the older green one. Its ACU patteren and it can hold more it has on the inside a zipper to split the ruck so you can keep things apart. Its ALOT more comfortable but ALOT harder to wear with the newer IBA but you get use to it.

All Airborne Troops are using the ALICE ruck system whereas the rest of the Army has gone to the MOLLE system. It’s rare that Rangers/SF/Airborne use rucksacks much at all in Iraq as it’s mainly an assault pack scenario for specific missions. In the Stan though, we go with the old ALICE due to the inability to jump the MOLLE system without a jumpsack which adds more gear.

EDIT* The ruck the poster below me is talking about is the MOLLE, which is larger than the ALICE system but isn’t jumpable. This is why the Rangers, SF, and Airborne still use the ALICE system. We jump. All the rucks are in ACU pattern camo now whether they are the ALICE or MOLLE.

John, my last jump was 3 weeks ago, using the ALICE dude. My snipers jump them because we don’t like using jump bags which make the MOLLE better for our special equipment.
