Climbing Kilimanjaro - Marangu, The Coca-Cola Route

The roads out of the six best known to climb Mt Kilimanjaro, Marangu is considered one of the easiest and safest. No one knows why, but the Marangu route is also called the "Coca-Cola map".

The Marangu route is both striking beauty and surprisingly comfortable, cottage accommodation available in cozy huts. From Marangu Gate, hikers take a 4 hour walk through dense rainforests to the second refuge camp called Mandara. Mandara hut is at an altitude of 2743 meters - a rise quite steep, so it is easier to overcome the effects of altitude.

In the next stage, the forest has to be left behind, only to be replaced by glorious fields of heath Heath, as the climbers ascend another thousand yards to the cabin Horombo to 3760 meters. This stage lasts five hours.

Then follows a day to rest and acclimate to the cabin Horombo, doing nothing but enjoying cleaning - though rare - mountain air and giving tired muscles relaxation time. If you're feeling adventurous, you can take the walk to the rocks Mawenzi Hut or Zebra.

After this, climbers renew his friendship with the heath covered moors, only to find themselves face to face time with the chair - the desert region that separates the peak high, Kibo, from jagged edges Mawenzi Peak. This is a five-hour walk that leaves you about 4730 meters from sea level, but with a comfortable place to rest at Kibo Hut.

The next day, leading to the top of this journey - Kibo to the summit itself. Most of the route so far is quite simple candle which may leave little climbers prepared to tackle the scree slope that leads to the point Gillman and crater rim - 5681 meters high. In the bright dawn almost preternaturally clear and beautiful view from the point of Gillman, however, most climbers forget his inexperience, fatigue and problems in their eagerness to reach the top.

Once Gillman point has been reached, it is time for the last stage - a walk of 1 hour and 30 minutes to Uhuru Peak, the highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro at 5895 meters.

All too soon, it's time to descend. Once again, pass the lichen and full of peak areas at times of ice. After lunch at the Kibo hut, the heath makes a comeback all the way back to Horombo Hut. This day, climbers will hike a total of 13 hours.

Finally, is the five-hour descent to the Marangu gate, in the midst of rainforests, whose sights and sounds at the same time feel welcome and unwanted, known and unknown after the ethereal experience of the mountains.

The Marangu route is considered appropriate for anyone which has a reasonably good health and not be imposed for those used to walking in mountain regions. If you feel they are "reasonably good form ", an hour a day on the treadmill at a 15 degree angle will help you prepare your muscles for the trip. Armed with proper mountaineering equipment - Foot pole, backpack and sleeping bag - you are good to go on a safari along the Marangu route Kilimanjaro.
