Sabbatical in Australia, what should I take?
I leave for a year traveling around Australia shortly, and I prefer responses Australia travelers who have traveled or are in the middle of planning. What size bag would you recommend to take with me? And also What should I bring with me, as in the amount of clothing, what kind of clothes, etc! Any help or information would be of great help! I tend to do a lot of move, hostels, etc, so it wouldnt of bags that would be highly desirable. I feel really Scottish.
For a start, Op shops (secondhand clothing stores hand) are excellent - a brilliant way for you to increase your wardrobe and de-crease again as it progresses. As for clothes, probably very little as you pack you can always pick up cheap stuff from op shops on his travels. Shoes are probably the most important thing you need ... comfy good use in what you are used to carry ... This will make your trip more comfortable ... clothing you can buy on the road. It depends on what area of Australia which will start with; If the North is likely missing shorts and singlet tops (cold weather clothes), shoes will be your greatest asset. If you head south to prepare for the cold, especially whether to Tasmania ... but as in Scotland, perhaps the cold does not bother you at all. http://www.hotels2go.com.au/usersignup.php?from=5 is a great site for finding deals few exceptional hotels and hostels in board is giving free food and cheap travel deals with accommodation, so I sign up with them too, if I were you. Do not forget any medicienes you may need and remember to state when filling in customs matters. Many people forget to bring the things they need or forget to declare them. Always bar work everywhere ... to consider getting your license that lets you work in a bar before leaving home ... or you can call a TAFE when you arrive and book a course a bar there ... a bar and of course the game is usually around $ 100-140 U.S. $. There are always jobs picking fruit going as well. This is something else you can looking into. As for what size backpack? Well, normally I would suggest that the biggest you can handle when full. Maybe borrow one from a colleague, fill it with a lot of things, and try wearing it around his own house for a while ... sure you can do things like stand for an hour with her in his Back comfortably ... because it can not be the rare occasion when you have to do that on a train. I am a traveler myself, I'm local, but if you have further questions, you can send an e-mail, I will be happy to try to answer as best I can for you. Hope this helps.
