What I would like advice on is should I consider taking a Bergen or should I stick with a travel pack or rucksack. As I am thinking of doing some hiking while travelling which one should I take?

i’d go for one of those big metal framed camping back packs. they’re a little pricey but very sturdy and worth the investment. also the frame allows the weight to rest on your waist rather than dragging your shoulders down. i’ve known quite a few people who travel with those. they have backpacked across europe and several other continents.
im a solder in the Army..I would go with the ruck sack….it holds alot of stuff and isnt that unconfortable
