How do I pack a rucksack for an expedition?

by lindaranch197 on April 6, 2010

I'm doing a trip for my college course and I have no idea how to pack my rucksack? I know it sounds stupid but it's really confusing me. I've got my sleeping bag at the bottom along with my spare clothes and things. But i don't know what's next. In the top pocket, I've got my gloves and head torch..ect.
What do you recommend?

Here is a suggested list of things which would be
suitable to take. This list is not exhaustive but it
provides a starting point:
Hiking boots or
strong shoes
jumper or
sweatshirt
Wet weather
gear
Uniform T-shirts Shorts
Underwear Socks Swimwear
Sweater Trousers Nightclothes
Gloves Hat Scarf
Towel Wash kit Teatowel
Plate Bowl Mug
Cutlery First aid kit Torch
Day sack Ground sheet Sleeping bag
Other things might be required for special
activities. Depending upon the occasion, you
may also need to consider space for parts of a
tent, a stove, fuel, food and so on.
This sounds like rather a lot, but it will fit into a racksack
