Fast Rope Insertion Extraction System (FRIES): USMC Screw-Up

by lindaranch197 on October 2, 2010

This video exposes yet again the dangerous, half-assed nature of the USMC egomaniac. The disintegration of Force Recon into mere short-range scouts and a desire of the marine grunt infantry to be "special" without paying the price to be initiative-taking, thinking professionals has resulted in a low-speed, helicopter, foot-slogger; a mechanical crutch for the weak unwilling to parachute who don't surprise anyone as they can be heard from miles away: www.combatreform.com www.geocities.com The USMC can't even do helicopters right; it fails to invest in rear ramp fast rope attachment points so two sticks of troops can slide off the rear ramp as one stick goes down the hell hole as the US Army's MH-47E Chinooks have: www.combatreform.com Thus, exposing the hovering helicopter for MINUTES to enemy fires instead of SECONDS. Next, the rotor down wash is so severe under the sky-gray (attaboy, USMC) CH-53E Super Stallion heavy lift helicopter, that the fast rope is not even touching the ground! Clearly a WEIGHTED, PADDED, SLIDER carry bag needs to be developed (it could be one of the troops' rucksacks) to pull down on the end of the fast rope to create a ground junction holding the rope vertically so troops don't get injured by not having a clearly visibly point to let go of the rope as depicted in our other FRIES video: www.youtube.com Reports say the hurricane-downwash V-22 requires WEIGHTED fast ropes so perhaps these will become standard for all VTOL aircraft that use FRIES ...

READ video description then you will know what to look for.

Don’t give them any ideas! Their LAV-1s are wearing old to rust and the shopping carts are WHEELED and this would appeal to marine egotism…

Exactly. An intelligent U.S. marine is an oxymoron–literally as well as figuratively.

Has anyone stopped to consider that this might have been a simple training op and some of the guys might have been going down the rope out an actual flying helo for the first time? You can slide down from the tower all you want but doing it for real requires practice before you get as good as some Special Ops Unit.

indeed the wash
i didnt read his complete description but was kinda guessing it.
indeed i’ve heard UK don’t grip the boots as well

SOjuice September 17, 2009 at 10:18 pm

yea, i do agree and I’m a Marine. Marines lack maturity. It might come down to an individual but i think mostly because of the age. Most Marines are young as fuck. And the ones leading are young as fuck too. I still love the Marines and the corps but it is what it is.

I would say Marines are most effective in all out conventional warfare and amphibious landing.

They’re only good at destorying shit. But they do a pretty good job at that.

I like the song :D whats it called :D ?

dynmicpara October 16, 2009 at 8:49 am

They will not be effective even doing that if their EFV strikes a sea mine or takes an ATGM because its plowing through waters the USN refuses to clear and is itself a bloated target without stealth or APS. Defaulting back to foot-sloggers from trucks, even worse.

dynmicpara October 16, 2009 at 8:51 am

So if its practice…don’t forget the CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM to fix things, too?

Dalby1617 November 17, 2009 at 12:29 am

so… what was the mistake?

chris225101 January 9, 2010 at 6:22 am

fairfieldsBEST January 9, 2010 at 10:57 pm

that looks fun but scary

julius153 January 27, 2010 at 5:55 am

Nice. :D I learned many things about fast rope and criticism by reading the comments and watching the vid. By the way, what’s the song again?

Victortrotska February 2, 2010 at 1:41 pm

You don’t seem to like much the USMC! lol

I agree a lot of immaturity as many watched too many movies. The most professionnal and mature US personnel to me are from the Navy.
Usually good guys, not show offs, rarely enlisted because of movies like you can see in other US SOF units but rather tradition or passion.

mrgoodie February 4, 2010 at 1:09 am

i dont see you doing this shit so dont judge and this is obviously training u moron

BuckshotFX4 February 10, 2010 at 1:24 am

dude does money mean anything to you!? number two, in a hot lz environment, 60 birds either air force or army would carry them, or even the uh-1y, joint ops, the marines need these large helos to get gear from ship to shore, theres nothing wrong with the helicopter, this is not combat, these marines look lke theyre limited duration equiped fast rope training… if they can fast rope from this bird, they can fast rope from anything, doesnt matter what bird your roping from in training…

usnpilot231 February 12, 2010 at 8:51 am

Damn this song is good what is it callled?

fndjfgsdk February 14, 2010 at 5:29 pm

where was the screw up?

penquinbum March 14, 2010 at 11:24 pm

@SOjuice Semper Fi. Let’s face it, the reason they’re so young is that what we do is a young man’s game. If you could only teach the patience and decision making skills of a 40 year old to the 19 yr old, it would make a difference, but wars are fought by kids. The average age of US enlisted men in Vietnam was something like 19.5 years. In the all volunteer forces today it isn’t much higher.

dynmicpara March 16, 2010 at 4:31 am

@penquinbum And that’s why we are LOSING in Iraq/Afghanistan. Young punks without maturity follow the inept bureaucracies blindly, kill innocent civilians and themselves. The “Wars” you describe are actually RACKETS to prolong violence for $. We need a PROFESSIONAL military of adults that SMOTHERS wars by excellence.

dynmicpara March 16, 2010 at 4:33 am

@mrgoodie julius153 could figure it out, why can’t you?

dynmicpara March 16, 2010 at 4:36 am

@BuckshotFX4 Not entirely true, PROS train on EXACTLY what they use not make excuses that they are good enough with just one platform; this kind of ad hocery constantly bites the USMC in the ass, look at OIF in 2003

dynmicpara March 16, 2010 at 4:37 am

ask julius153 he could figure it out

bcsROBBERY July 22, 2010 at 8:26 pm

if ur a marine disregard, fast roping horror story of a marine that dropped his rifle and then impaled as he fell on it. morale of the story: always keep your rifle arm distance away.

waffle1997 September 18, 2010 at 12:02 am

the screw up was the double ropers the dude was 5 secs. from the ground before the other guy went
