Free Things to do in London
London is probably the most expensive city in the world (or so it seems). Now we all know that there is no such thing as a lunch free, so make your sandwich, pack your bag and check out our suggestions of things the freedom to do in London.
Although we can enumerate a series of events and attractions that will not cost you a grain, we can not promise you will not have to give up a penny or two of travel or refreshments. If you can not afford the payment of snacks, and not get free trips to the local police station.
1. If you live dangerous fantasy, why not see a trial in the period session at the Old Bailey? The Old Bailey criminal court is the most famous in the world, hear the trials in London and throughout England and Wales. The original Old Bailey court dates to 1539. Famous trials held there include Oscar Wilde, Dr Crippen, William Joyce ( 'Lord Haw Haw'), the Krays and the Yorkshire Ripper.
The public galleries are open Monday to Friday from 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm. You may have to queue to enter the Old Bailey has become an attraction popular tourist. You can get a list of cases to be heard by visiting: Hmcourts-service.gov.uk/cms/courthearings.htm. The nearest tube is St Paul.
2. If you've had a hard day's work or purchased til fell and fancy putting your feet and relax, then where better than at the Theater Royal Stratford East? Very rarely do you find entertainment that is completely free and comfortable surroundings. Monday nights are comedy nights. Now you may not have heard of most of comedians brave enough to stand up and entertain, but everyone has to start somewhere. Imagine being able to tell your friends you've seen (insert a name unknown comedians) before being famous? 'Five Guys Named Moe "started here and look what happened to them!
They usually have free entertainment on every night of the week, ranging from comedy to a variety of musical artists. Visit their website to see the line up: Stratfordeast.com / frameset.htm . The nearest tube station is Stratford.
3. Go on a wildlife adventure. I bet you never thought you could do that in London, eh? London's public parks are a major bonus for the city. We love one in particular - Bushy Park. Bushy Park is located north of Hampton Court Palace. Not only will find amazing wildlife and scenery, but there is also a fantastic story contained in the park. To set for a day filled with smelly city of people, take a walk in Bushy Park and place red and fallow deer, herons, woodpeckers and many other rare sites. Check out their website for events to include in your trip: Royalparks.gov.uk / parks / bushy_park / about.cfm
4. Digging your dancing shoes and shimmy to Bar Salsa. If you are interested in having your body crushed against a Salsa dance instructor then adjustment is for you. Meet new people and get fit, what more could you want? Get a free beginner's lesson Wednesday at around 7pm. We note that this is a popular event for beginners, so we recommend you not to wear open-toed sandals. After the event go drinks in the bar and if it has not impressed Mr. or Ms. Right with your dancing skills, try again after a few drinks. Bar Salsa is on Charing Cross Road and the Metro Closest Tottenham Court Road.
5. View a politician in action! See history in the making as it is to see a debate in the Houses of Parliament. Not only would be an exciting way to spend a morning or afternoon, but also spend time at the historic Palace of Westminster. The palace was built in 1042 as a royal residence. Some years later the Westminster Hall, built stalls placed many legal accessories. After a fire in 1834 the palace was rebuilt and now includes the famous clock tower (Big Ben). To see the Question Time the Prime Minister, will be booked in advance. The nearest tube is Westminster.
6. Visit the Tower of London, after being closed to tourists. The Tower of London, has performed many roles in recent years, ie, a royal palace, a prison, a place of execution and the jewel house. It is definitely a must for tourists, but guided tours can often be crowded and noisy. What about your personal journey, minus the crowds? Few people know of an ancient ceremony that has been done in the tower every night in one form or another in the last 700 years. At precisely 9.30pm Yeoman warders and military guard lock the outer doors of the Tower and give the keys to the residence of the Governor of the Tower. This ceremony is open to the public for tickets booked in advance. You can watch this ancient ceremony with a small group of people and feel privileged to have had access to this beautiful piece of history without the crowds. Visit their website for more information - hrp.org.uk /. The nearest tube is Tower Hill.
We have tried above and I can honestly say I really enjoy. Our pleasure was obviously enhanced by the fact that our entertainment was free. Just goes to show that there a lot of things to do in London for free if you know where to look.
